Why disinfecting is important regarding COVID-19

While most of us are still unsure about how life will continue after social distancing, business owners are preparing for the return to keeping customers, clients, staff, and employees safe from COVID-19. However, there are still questions about how to do just that. 

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) continue to publish their findings regarding creating a safe environment for the general public because much of what is unseen is what is much more dangerous to our way of life, now. It is no longer acceptable to just clean a dirty surface. Now, what is microscopic must be disinfected before it is suitable for those entering a public building. The CDC states, “Cleaning of visibly dirty surfaces followed by disinfection is a best practice measure for prevention of COVID-19 and other viral respiratory illnesses in community settings.” To be clear, disinfection must include a chemical treatment in order to prevent infection.

Here is the CDC’s definition:

Disinfecting works by using chemicals, for example EPA-registered disinfectants, to kill germs on surfaces. This process does not necessarily clean dirty surfaces or remove germs. But killing germs remaining on a surface after cleaning further reduces any risk of spreading infection.
